The Standard [5.6"] comes with a Pilot G2 0.7 mm refill, the Short [5.1"] comes with a Schmidt EasyFlow 9000 medium refill, and the Mini [4.4"] comes with a Pilot G2 Mini 0.7mm refill. Many of our customers like to use their own personal favorites, however, and so we put together a list of compatible refills that work with our pens.

And there are four options to choose from: titanium, copper, bronze, and zirconium. We picked those four because they're popular, fun to machine, and can withstand a lifetime of use.

TITANIUM

Tough, lightweight, extremely corrosion resistant, and the best-selling material we work with. If this is your first Tactile Turn product, we recommend starting with titanium.

COPPER

One of the few metallic elements with a natural color other than gray or silver. Naturally antimicrobial, copper will patina and darken with time and use.

BRONZE

Consisting mostly of copper, tin, and other metals like aluminum, manganese, nickel, or zinc. Bronze machines beautifully and looks great when highly polished or with some patina.

ZIRCONIUM

Directly below titanium on the periodic table with similar corrosion resistance. Zirconium is difficult to machine and one of the most expensive materials we work with but lustrous, dark grey color looks amazing.

    I purchased the bronze standard length bolt action with the damascus bolt as a birthday gift to myself. This pen is a piece of art. I can see it changing colors already after only a couple weeks of use, but I can't wait to see how it continues to patina. The damascus bolt is a nice accent. The connection where the tip of the pen screws on is invisible/seamless unless you know it's there, and it's super precise. The bolt action mechanism is solid and super satisfying to play with as well. The weight of the pen is not insignificant, but that was expected. Between the weight and groved pen body, it is substantial but satisfying in-hand. I was stuck between the bronze and copper, but since the bronze was a little harder and a little lighter, that won me over (though I'd still love it in copper).

    I like that there are a bunch of refills that are drop in replacements, but you can get almost any refill in it that you'd like if you don't mind trimming just a little or you can order the adapter TT sells to fit Parker style refills as well. I'm not a big fan of Pilot G2 refills, I think there are several better options, but they're also far from my least favorite. The idea you can grab a Pilot G2 refill almost anywhere that sells pens is a plus though. I think it serves great as an EDC pen or a quick jotter, and as a conversation piece, but due to the weight, longer writing sessions are probably less likely (at least in the heavier metals).
