A Fresh Perspective
We've been thinking about doing a Clip Action (internally referred to as the "Clip Actuated Bolt Action" or CABA) for a while but couldn't come up with a new or interesting way of doing it that was distinct from all the other pens out there. Then, some time in late 2025, we had the idea of a milled and bent titanium clip with a relief cut that keeps it just off the body to ensure good tension on both thin materials like dress shirts and thick materials like jeans. Matt and the team got to work creating the models which resulted in a 2-piece, dovetail-slotted carrier to secure the clip. The end result is a fidget-friendly mechanism that's a ton of fun to use and is a natural addition to our existing catalog. Made from titanium and offered in three finishes (Machined, Stonewashed, DLC) in both Standard and Short lengths, the Clip Action is our take on a simple yet elegant mechanism built to withstand a lifetime of use.

Why not a "Slim" diameter version?
Standard diameter versions are by far more popular than our slim versions so that's what we typically start with. The current design is made specifically for the standard diameter (0.43") and would have to be reworked for a slim body. That's not to say we won't do it eventually but, depending on the demand for this mechanism, it might be a while.
What do you look for in mechanisms?
When Will saw the Mitsubishi Boxy pens a few years ago he immediately wanted to do an all-metal version so we made it happen with the Side Click. Since then, we've been on the lookout for mechanisms that meet three basic requirements: 1) Manufacturable, 2) Reliable, 3) Satisfying/Fidgety. It's fairly easy to get one or two of those things but much harder to do all three.
Why no "Mini" length?
Unfortunately, Pilot who makes the Mini G2 refill announced they will not longer be in production so we are in the process of phasing out the Mini length. We plan to explore other "mini" ink refill options for a shorter length in the future.

I still love my lefty slim bolt action, but I ordered the DLC version of this for a change of pace. For those wondering, the seam at the top is visible but slight, and the seam at the business end is imperceptible unless you really go looking for it. The action stays where you put it, even for a lefty. It does not seem like it will close just from normal writing, nor have I gotten it to do that.
And speaking of the action, it's really smooth, like slipping into a nice bath tub full of warm butter.
