Our turn...

Based on the Magnus ClickShift™ V1, our version is rebuilt from the ground up to simplify production, tighten up the action, and improve the overall feel. The three-piece mechanism is machined grade 5 titanium and a C63000 bronze actuator switch to provide a smooth action while maintaining durability. It's the same diameter as our other slim pens and same refill compatibility as our short length. Enjoy!

Questions & Answers

How did this come about?

We first reached out to Magnus about the ClickShift pens he was making a while ago when the V1s were out of production and he had plans on making the V2s. We followed up in early 2024 to see if he'd be interested in licensing the mechanism and, thankfully, he agreed. We think the mechanism is one of the coolest ones around and we're excited to bring our version in production.

What do you look for in mechanisms?

When Will saw the Mitsubishi Boxy pens a few years ago he immediately wanted to do an all-metal version so we made it happen with the Side Click. Since then, we've been on the lookout for mechanisms that meet three basic requirements: 1) Manufacturable, 2) Reliable, 3) Satisfying/Fidgety. It's fairly easy to get one or two of those things but much harder to do all three.

Why just one length and diameter?

We're keeping things simple for launch with only one size and material. This mechanism is a little longer than the Bolt Actions or Side Clicks so we felt it'd be too long if we did it in the Pilot G2 size. We might do other variants in the future but, at least for now, wanted to gauge interest with titanium.

    Stopped working

Mechanism inside stopped catching and in turn does not work. Have reached out a couple of times regarding this issue with no response.

Really incredible pen... ~75% of the time. Is that acceptable at this price point?

I've been using this pen daily for three weeks now and for the most part I'm very happy with the size, weight, and writing experience.

My main issue has been with the switch mechanism. When it does work, it works amazingly - very smooth, very solid, and very satisfying - but I've frequently found that the mechanism feels quite stiff, gritty, and crunchy - very unpleasant.

I work in healthcare, and I suspect that some of that tacky residue left behind after sanitising my hands keeps working its way into the exposed mechanism as I actuate the switch. Pulling the pen apart and cleaning the components does fix the issue, but having to do this 2 or 3 times a week is not ideal.

I've also noticed that the bronze switch has already begun to tarnish where I have been making contact with it - this doesn't bother me too much personally, but your mileage may vary.

One last nitpick is that the top cap and the tip seem slightly off with the rest of the machining. The seams don't disappear into the rings of the body and are actually quite obvious. This isn't something you can feel, it's purely a visual issue.

This is a really great pen, but for the price I paid, I did not expect to have these issues.

The pen itself is a nice tool I only wish my ink cartridge that came with didn't skip I had to purchase another .

    Not what i expected

I did return the pen, could not use my other refills that i have been using in your pen for years. I have 5 pens and that is what I will stick with.
